Writing great product descriptions
What to write so buyers tap Buy and don't ask 20 questions first.
Writing great product descriptions
Buyers can't pick up your item in person — your description is doing the work of a salesperson. A few minutes of effort here cuts down on questions and increases conversion.
What to include
- What it is in plain language ("Women's cotton dress, size M")
- Condition — new, like new, used good, used fair
- Brand if relevant, or "unbranded"
- Materials for clothing/furniture, specs for electronics, ingredients for food/cosmetics
- Dimensions or size with numbers, not just "medium"
- What's included if a bundle
What to leave out
- Excessive emojis and exclamation marks — looks untrustworthy
- ALL CAPS sentences
- Fake urgency ("BUY NOW!!!")
Length
Aim for 50–200 words. Long enough to answer the obvious questions, short enough to read in 20 seconds.
