Earnings and withdrawals

How commission accrues from a video tap to your MoMo, the Tuesday/Friday payout window, and what can delay things.

How commission gets to your MoMo

This guide traces the full path of a single sale — from the moment a buyer taps your tagged product to the moment money lands in your MoMo. Every step, every delay, every cut.

The flow, end to end

Roughly 10-14 days from buyer tap to money in your account.

The cut — how much of a sale is yours

When a buyer pays UGX 100,000 for a product you tagged at 20% commission:

Component Amount Who gets it
Item price 100,000 (escrow)
Platform fee (5%) 5,000 KampalaSnap
Available for split 95,000 (escrow)
Your commission (20%) 19,000 You
Seller's share 76,000 Seller
Delivery fee (varies) Seller passes through to rider

So on a 100,000 UGX sale at 20% commission, you net about 19,000 UGX.

Why withdrawals are Tuesdays and Fridays

Same rhythm as seller payouts. Two reasons:

  1. Buyer protection. A 2-3 day gap between dispute-window close and payout means buyers always have time to flag issues before money leaves the platform.
  2. Operational efficiency. Batching twice-weekly payouts lets us send single batches through Pesapal at lower fees, which we pass on by not charging a withdrawal fee beyond Pesapal's cost.

The window opens at midnight Tuesday and midnight Friday (UG time / EAT). Closes Saturday 00:00 (Friday window) or Wednesday 00:00 (Tuesday window).

Outside the window, the Withdraw button is greyed with "Reopens [date]" text.

Setting up your payout method

Before your first withdrawal:

Creator Hub → Wallet → Payout methods+ Add.

Mobile Money

  1. Pick Mobile Money.
  2. Enter the MoMo number.
  3. Enter the registered name on the MoMo account (case-insensitive but spelling matters).
  4. Pick the network (MTN / Airtel).
  5. Tap Save.

We send a UGX 100 test charge → instantly credit back. If the test succeeds, the method is verified.

Bank account

  1. Pick Bank.
  2. Pick your bank from the dropdown.
  3. Enter the account number.
  4. Enter the registered name on the account.
  5. Tap Save.

Bank verification takes 24 hours (the test charge needs the bank to confirm). MoMo verification is usually instant.

You can save up to 3 payout methods and pick the default at withdrawal time.

Requesting a withdrawal

When the window is open:

  1. Wallet → Withdraw.
  2. Enter the amount (minimum UGX 50,000).
  3. Pick your payout method.
  4. Review the fee breakdown.
  5. Tap Confirm.

The fee breakdown

Line Example
Amount requested UGX 200,000
Pesapal fee UGX 1,500
You receive UGX 198,500

KampalaSnap doesn't add a withdrawal fee. The Pesapal fee is a pass-through.

Processing time

After confirming:

If the payout fails (rare — usually because the MoMo / bank account isn't reachable), the amount is fully refunded to your wallet and you're notified.

Things that can delay a withdrawal

No verified payout method

You need at least one method verified before withdrawals are enabled. If your first method failed verification, add a different one.

Window not open

Trying to withdraw on a Monday queues it silently. The system fires the withdrawal on Tuesday morning. You won't notice — it just appears in Processing when the window opens.

Pending dispute on a contributing sale

If one of the sales in your withdrawable balance is now disputed, that amount is re-frozen in pending until the dispute closes. Other sales in your balance withdraw normally.

Penalty tier (from buyer reports against your videos)

If your videos repeatedly trigger buyer complaints (misleading tags, etc.), admin can apply a penalty to your creator account that slows your payouts. Rare but real.

What happens to a sale that's later refunded

A buyer who opens a dispute and wins gets a refund. Your commission on that sale is reversed:

The auto-reverse means you're not on the hook for problematic sellers — but you don't earn final commission until the sale truly completes.

A monthly earnings rhythm

A realistic monthly cycle for an active mid-tier creator:

Some creators withdraw twice a week (Tuesday + Friday); others wait until the end of the month and do one big withdrawal. Either works — small Pesapal fee per transaction, so frequent is fine.

How commission stacks if you tagged the same product on multiple videos

If you tag the same product on 3 separate videos and a buyer ends up buying:

So having multiple videos tagging the same product just gives you more shots at the buyer — each video is its own opportunity.

Common questions

What's the minimum withdrawal?

UGX 50,000. Smaller amounts don't justify the Pesapal fee.

Can I see exactly which sale generated which commission?

Yes — Insights → Earnings → tap any commission line. Shows the order, the video that drove it, the buyer (anonymized), and the exact amount.

Why is my withdrawable balance lower than I expected?

Three reasons it can look lower:

  1. Recent sales are in pending, not withdrawable, until the 48-hour window closes.
  2. Disputed sales are frozen.
  3. Refunded sales were deducted.

Insights → Earnings shows the breakdown.

Can I withdraw to a different person's MoMo?

Technically yes if you enter their number and name on file, but strongly discouraged. If anything goes wrong (wrong amount, scam), recovery is hard because the funds went to someone else.

Withdraw to yourself; transfer to others via MoMo manually afterward.

Can I withdraw all my earnings in one big payout when I'm ready to leave the platform?

Yes — there's no maximum. Your full withdrawable balance can come out in one request. The Pesapal fee is the same regardless of amount.

Are my creator earnings taxable?

Probably — this is income, and Uganda taxes it. Talk to a tax advisor about how to report. KampalaSnap doesn't file tax forms for you, but your withdrawal history serves as your record.

Can I receive payment in any currency other than UGX?

Today, only UGX. International payouts are on the roadmap but not live.

Why did one of my commissions get reduced?

Most likely: the buyer opened a partial dispute and got a partial refund. Your commission was prorated to match. The dispute thread on the original order would show the breakdown.
